Lyme-Old Lyme High School Students Raise Funds for H4K
Old Lyme, CT --
On December 1, 2006, a group of students at Lyme-Old Lyme High School raised $574 dollars for the benefit of deserving school
music programs in Connecticut. On their own initiative, they planned, organized and brought to fruition a benefit concert
held at their school auditorium. The students formed committees for talent acquisition, promotion, ticket sales, light and
sound design. The project was part of a class called "Civics and the Law", taught by Ms. Nicole Breault, chairperson of the
history department at Lyme-Old Lyme High School. The students chose two charitable organizations to benefit from the concert:
Horns For Kids and the Haitian Health Foundation. Horns For Kids received funds from the ticket sales. Bars of soap were collected
at the door and then sent on to the Haitian Health Foundation, an outpatient health care facility in Jeremie, Haiti (www.haitianhealthfoundation.org).
Performers at the concert included "41 North" (band), Connor McKnight, The Foglianos, and a surprise guest (teacher at LOLHS).
Horns For Kids co-directors enjoyed a visit with the students in their classroom on January 11, 2007. We are very proud of
them for creatively working together to organize and complete this project. And we are very grateful to them for providing
musical opportunites for less-fortunate students in Connecticut. It is gratifying to see young people who truly care about
the welfare of others. Congratulations on a job well-done!
