Mansfield, CT -- On March 20, 2009, Mansfield Middle School
held a Cultural Benefit Cabaret and raised over $300 to donate to Horns For Kids. The event was a collaboration between
the school's music officers and student council. In the past, the music officers have held two cabarets where all
proceeds went to music related charities.
This year,
Mansfield Middle School students contributed their time and effort to perform at the Cabaret. All acts fell into the
following categories: music, dance, or poetry. Some performances included a house jazz combo, a rock band caled
Rendezvous, and a string quartet that played "Clocks" by Coldplay. Student performer, Keith Chasin said, "It was a big success. It was cool to hear
your friends play music of their choice on instruments you don't usually hear them play on."
To follow the cultural theme, performers and other students' families
supplied food and drinks for a cultural buffet. In addition, in the spirit of "going green," the students
asked the audience to bring their own washable plates and cups to try to reduce waste.
